According to statistics from the Department of Agricultural Product Processing and Market Development (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), in the first eight months of this year, pork is the livestock product with the largest increase in import turnover. Vietnam imported 64.66 thousand tons of fresh chilled or frozen pork, worth more than 152 million USD. This number increased by 272.6% in volume and 352.6% in value over the same period in 2019.
In addition to pork, milk and dairy products are also items with a strong increase in import value with an increase of 10.8%, reaching 766 million USD. The total value of livestock imports in the past 8 months was approximately 2.3 billion USD, up 11.8% over the same period in 2019.

However, the scale of the industry is still mainly dependent on small households. In the context of many dangerous diseases, there is always the potential for a large-scale outbreak. The organization of livestock production according to the linkage chain also accounts for a very low proportion.

This trend has had an impact. positively, spreading to the small production team, and at the same time waking up businesses investing in the livestock sector.
According to experts, this is in line with the needs of domestic consumers when increasingly placing higher requirements on food quality, origin and origin. Domestic livestock enterprises will have to compete strongly with imported food produced by countries with developed agriculture.
To have a fair comparison with foreign competitors, how are livestock enterprises applying technology in production and processing? What competitive advantages will domestic manufacturers promote to confront international manufacturers in the medium and long term? What should Vietnam do to strongly encourage investment in the large-scale and high-production livestock industry?
