On June 2, the Plant Protection Department (Plant Protection) held an online conference to evaluate the effectiveness of the application of intelligent insect monitoring stations in monitoring and predicting plant pests of the Joint Stock Company. part Rynan Technologies Vietnam.
Many advantages over traditional light traps
According to a report by Rynan Technologies Vietnam Joint Stock Company (Rynan Company), lamp trapsmart insect monitoring works by solar energy, ensuring electrical safety when operating, especially when there is heavy rain and wind. , easy to install in remote locations that do not need mains power. The trap also has a lightning protection device to protect it during stormy days.

Intelligent insect monitoring station lures insects with LED light with suitable wavelength range (UV light, blue light, green light, white light) focusing on the station's operating area . The process of collecting insects is carried out automatically periodically and recorded by a specialized camera the images of insects entering the station such as: brown planthopper, black-tailed green planthopper, white-backed planthopper, leaf roller moth, stem borer moth, autumn caterpillars, green blind bugs, bugs, three-chambered ants…
The transmission station sends image data collected every 1 hour, captures 1 image of insects collected by the camera and sends it to the data analysis center (or the frequency of photography can be adjusted depending on the amount of pests). Users can then access image information and collected data easily through the Central Management software. The system automatically cleans and cleans after insects fly in, ensuring that insect image data is always updated according to the actual environment.
The system can change the appropriate light wavelength range according to the time and behavior of each insect that wants to monitor quickly with a mobile application.
According to Rynan Company's assessment, the station can identify and analyze more than 70 types of insects using artificial intelligence and provide useful warnings about pests. a lot of pest data is collected over time.
The station applies Internet of Things (IOT) technology to control and change device configurations and standard data, creating an effective monitoring system. Using 3G/4G technology to transmit and receive data for a smart wireless solution in real time.

The solar energy system ensures continuous operation on large-scale deployment terrain (rice fields, vegetables, large-area cultivation areas, etc.), regardless of the power grid. nation. There is a battery system to store energy for the operation of the device in the evening.
In addition, the station uses artificial intelligence to classify, count the number, density, forecast and warn of insects through mobile applications and central management solutions SaaS (Software as a Service), Record images of insects into the storage station in the data center.
Need to study, adjust the limitations
Through the evaluation of direct users, smart light traps have a certain accuracy when compared to traditional light traps. However, at the conference, some leaders of the local cropping and plant protection sub-department pointed out the shortcomings of smart light traps.
Specifically, the annual cost of system installation, maintenance, and software using the system is relatively high. At a time when the number of insects flying into the trap is high, the possibility of the insects lying on top of each other, the system camera may make an error count.
Smart insect trap system quickly gets dirty due to direct contact with insects, so it needs to be cleaned regularly or periodically once a week.
The inside of the light trap accessories does not have a shielding box to limit the adhesion of insects, if the insects stick to it when cleaning, it is easy to damage the electrical circuit connections.
Despite many advantages, these smart stations are currently quite expensive, and the performance depends on the accompanying application software. Photo: Plant Protection Department.
The lighting system has 4 colors blue, green, white, UV which can be adjusted to attract insects but not enough brightness to attract insects on a large scale compared to manual traps.
For fruit trees, the system has not met the expectations because the number of insects entering the trap is low, mainly the subjects on rice entering the trap.
According to Deputy Director of the Plant Protection Department Nguyen Quy Duong, the application of insect trap lights is a very good direction in the application of 4.0 technology to agriculture. Currently, the prediction of pests in insect groups plays an important role in the prevention of yellow leaf curl disease in the South, the 'Red River Delta' and the whiteback planthopper in the North.
From the assessment of the intelligent insect monitoring light trap station, Deputy Director Nguyen Quy Duong raised three key issues that need to be resolved.
One is that Rynan Company needs to continue to improve to lower the cost of its products. To be able to move towards replacing the traditional light trap, the issue of accuracy is very important.
The second is to study to determine whether insect objects tend to be exposed to light or not. Currently, the application of this smart insect trap is only being tested on rice, but it has not been effective on fruit trees.

Third is the problem of correlation between the number of insects entering the lamp trap and the number of insects outside. At present, the correlation has not been shown to have timely and accurate prevention instructions. Similarly, the problem of determining and choosing the effective light step also needs to be reconsidered.
Through the conference, the Plant Protection Department will coordinate and support Rynan Company to improve smart light traps so that they can be developed in localities for efficient production.
On the side of Rynan Company, in the next 1 month, for operating stations, the Company will replace the controller, at the same time add 2 more lights, upgrade the width of the hopper to target the number of hoppers. brown can increase 10 times.
Representatives of Rynan Company also expressed their agreement and desire to soon coordinate with the Plant Protection Department to improve smart light trap products to serve farmers.
